Cheap Thrills – record store celebrates Birthday

This month (November) the record store Cheap Thrills that I also talked about in this blog post about record stores in Montreal celebrated its birthday. The record store is in business since 1971, so it had to blow out 40 candles on the cake to make a wish.

However, the store does not show any midlife crisis moments at all, still running strong like a young God. In fact the birthday celebration was carried out not just by turning the calendar pages, but also by two DJs and three bands. Now who wouldn’t like to have such a Birthday?

Celebration times come on!

If you are interested, you can listen to a recorded broadcast of the music, or check out the information on the blog post of CKUT 90.3FM, a non-profit Montreal based radio station.

The birthday also made headlines the independent local Montreal student newspaper The Link calls it

a night of celebration for the first store, in fact, to sell used records in Montreal. Cheap Thrills has survived the rise and decline of vinyl, 8-tracks, cassette tapes and CDs.

in an article in its edition in the week of November 15th, which you can find online here.

Now watch out with your enthusiasm though! Singing happy birthday might cause you to spend a lot of money on copyright infringement to Time Warner Corporation lawyers. So if you feel like celebrating one of the oldest record stores in Montreal, better go there yourself and buy a nice LP to play on your soundsystem. That will not just celebrate the shop, but also music. And that’s what we are all about, isn’t it?!
