Get in the MINIMOOD

How immensely you must be enjoying my puns.

This coming Monday, take my advice and be sure to check out a preview of next summer’s edition of Le Mood, our city’s first festival dedicated to alternative Jewish arts & culture. This one-night-only sampler will feature 10 “experiences” that fall under the theme of Fusion, which relates to the underlying message of the festival. Broaching senstive topics like Judaism and Quebecois separatism, LGBTQ issues within the community, and the Jewish identity, the festival aims to provide an open-ended exploration of arts and culture relating to the Jewish diaspora.

Le Mood works closely with Pop Montreal, and this collaborative showcase kicks off with a performance/panel fusion presentation of The Moth, touted as “Tales of Cultural Encounters at Home and Abroad”. Afterwards, there will be an exclusive preview screening of Punk Jews, a documentary series that concerns an unconventional New York scene made up of Jewish artists, musicians, writers, designers and more. Following the sneak-peak cut of the film, the audience will be able to take part in a Q & A with the film’s director, Jesse Zook Mann, via Skype.

The rest of the night sounds like a giant melting pot of concerts, stand-up comedy, and eclectic panel discussions with guests from all corners of the world. Some of the bigger names taking part include Y-Love, DJ Diwon, Guy Bouthiller, Neev Bensimhon and Eman, but if my past experiences at Le Mood have taught me anything, there will be something for everyone, no matter their religion.

MINIMOOD takes place at the Segal Centre on Cote-Ste-Catherine, starting at 7:30 on Monday, November 28th. Check out the website for more details on programming and how you can get involved:
