Time to dig out your snowsuit: Igloofest 2012

Yeah, it’s supposed to snow tomorrow. Yeah, your commute to school or work is about to get so much more annoying. Yeah, I’m loving the Justin Bieber Christmas album, too. More importantly – winter means Igloofest is almost here! Here are some highlights from this year’s line-up:

Weekend #1: January 12-14, 2012

The city’s boy hero A-Trak is the headliner, but the opening weekend also features a much-anticipated dubstep show from Britain’s Mala (DMZ); some funk stylings from Tanner Ross; German brothers Tiefschwarz bringing back house music; a little Montreal bass with Botnek; French superstars Bambounou and a live kuduro performance by Buraka Som Sistema out of Portugal. (I don’t know what the word “kuduro” means either but I’m excited for it.)

Weekend #2: January 19-21, 2012

French producer Terence Fixmer provides techno music for the more industrial crowd; Montreal’s electro king, the half-serious Tiga; more dubstep from the man with many names, David Kennedy, who will be appearing as “Pearson Sound” at Igloofest for reasons unknown; still more techno from Max Cooper, and and house music from purist Sébastien Léger.

Weekend #3: January 26-28, 2012

The closing weekend spotlights house music legend Maya Jane Coles all the way from London; catchy techno from EBM-influenced Green Velvet, as well as Marcel Dettmann from Germany.

There are still more acts to be announced, so stay tuned, and don’t forgot that Igloofest is known for its surprise guests so you don’t want to miss a weekend. And seriously, you’ll need a snowsuit.
